Creature from the Black Lagoon

Year: 1954
Directed By: Jack Arnold
Starring: , , , , , , ,

A strange prehistoric beast lurks in the depths of the Amazonian jungle. A group of scientists try to capture the animal and bring it back to civilization for study.

Of all the universal classics, I have to say that this one stands up the best. Probably due to the fact that there hasnt been a remake, that I’m aware of. The acting really isn’t bad. There is a heavy use of “green screen” – if you can call it that on a black and white movie.. but, honestly it all looks pretty good.

Best of all is the Creature itself.. The “Gill Man” is actually a really good costume, for the time.. and had to be waterproof as most of the action scenes took place submerged.

Usually, I say that the Universal Classics are great for the kids, but this one may actually be one of the more scary of the group.
