Year: 1957

The calving of an Arctic iceberg releases a giant praying mantis, trapped in suspended animation since prehistoric times. It first attacks military outposts to eat their occupants, then makes its way to the warmer latitudes of Washington and New York. A paleontologist works together with military units to try to kill it.

A great trip down the nostalgia trail. Harking back to the days when hollywood had no idea what science was, and a sketchy notion that the military was only a dozen guys working out of a high school library. The Giant Insect movies were all the rage in the 50’s, and this is one of the better ones.

Pretty good acting, a ridiculous, yet well written story. In a time when people actually took their craft seriously, no matter how silly the project was. “What’s that? A story about a 40ft high Mantis? Let’s do it..”. Now, THAT is some get up and go attitude!

Honestly, I’d like to see Hollywood remake some of these giant bug films

Pop the corn and have some fun!
