Here it is.. one of the Original Universal Monster Movies. Beautiful, flawless and an example to all who which to get into film.

No, sorry… There is a bit of nostalgia that goes with the Universal Monsters, and we all want to love them so much, because, let’s face it.. Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolf Man paved the way for cinematic horror.. true.

However, when compared to some of the other versions of this story.. this is a snooze-fest. To be perfectly honest, I enjoyed the 1994 version with Robert De Niro, a lot more. It was truer to the book.

This classic feels very rushed, with only a 70 minute run time, and doesn’t really keep true to the novel by Mary Shelly.

Frankenstein (1931) may have been quite a horror for its time, but by today’s standards, I doubt it would frighten a small child. Some things just don’t hold up, and although I admire the early workings of Hollywood and the innovations they made.. well.. Some things are best left in nostalgia.
