Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto, to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven with the help of Professor X must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction. As a fan of movies, I enjoyed this one. It had action, good acting and an interesting story. Though, as with all Marvel movies, it deviates from the original source material, I feel that this is a good “popcorn” movie that will entertain the masses.

How did the new, younger, cast hold up?

All and all, a good movie. But, I really think it could have been better.. perhaps split into a 2 parter for a more fulfilling combat scene.

And with that said…

Spoiler Alert

I had some issues and praise. And I’m not going to on and on about deviating from the comics.

  • Archangel: Why doesn’t Angel get any love? Seriously..
  • Weapon X is loose… Kick ass! (mustn’t complain.. about.. comic.. continuity..)
  • Why specifically show Jubilee in the previews and marketing if you’re not going to use her? I know she’s useless, but come on..
  • Where the hell is Bobby Drake?
  • Striker, you silly, silly man..

The movie seemed to be just too short and rushed. The fight between Apocalypse and the Xmen is only like 10 minutes long, and involved A being in a bubble shield the whole damned time. I mean, he takes out an entire room filled with angry steel workers by sinking them into the floor and leaving them to die.. if he can do that, why didn’t he do it to the xmen?

These types of movies always seem to have protagonists with great power, who just doesnt use when they have the opportunity. Makes no sense at all.

Oh, and Phoenix? Already? You just rebooted the franchise. Too soon.
